What is PMU?
PMU stands for Permanent makeup. Microblading, powdering, combo brows are all forms of permanent Makeup (PMU)
So...what is microblading?
Microblading is a permanent makeup procedure that involves a manual tattooing technique that creates ultra fine hair strokes on the eyebrows. It's the best way to improve your brow shape, fullness, thickness and color. No more anxiety using pencils. Just perfect brows - all day, everyday. Now you can see why everyone is obsessed with this brow treatment! ***Please note, microblading isn’t for everyone, thinning skin, oily skin: See Powder Brows.
How much does microblading cost?
The typical cost for a microblading procedure is $600.00(including your touchup).
Your initial appointment is $400 and your 6-8 week touchup is $199
What is combo Brows?
Combo brows is a combination of two forms of semi-permanent techniques: microblading and shading. OR nanoneedling and shading. Hair-strokes are placed with a manual tool or machine in the brow to give the brow a natural look. The shading is precisely applied between the hairstrokes using a permanent makeup device to give the brow its fullness.
How much do Combo Brows cost?
The typical cost for a Combo Brows is $700-$750 (including your touchup).
Your initial appointment is $500 - $550 and your 6-8 week touchup is $199
What are Powder Brows?
Powder brows also known as powdering, ombre powder or shaded brows) is a semi-permanent make-up procedure for BROWS. The artist inserts PMU pigments into the top layers of the skin with a PMU machine using a soft shading technique, or pixelization.
What is the cost for Powder Brows?
The typical cost for a Powder Brows is $650 (including your touchup).
Powder Brows initial procedure is $450, and your 6-8 week touchup is $199
What are Nano Brows?
Nano brows are a type of permanent makeup (PMU) technique that uses an ultra-fine, single-needle machine to create hair-like strokes that closely mimic natural eyebrow hairs. This method is often compared to microblading but differs in its precision and longevity.
The typical cost for a Nano Brows is $675 (including your touchup).
Nano Brows initial procedure is $475, and your 6-8 week touchup is $199
How long does the procedure take?
A microblading/Combo Brow or Powdering procedure should include two sessions. The first session takes about two-three hours (give or take) and includes brow shaping, brow mapping and the initial PMU technique choosen. The second session is called the 6 week touchup or perfecting touchup and takes about 90-120 minutes.
Who is microblading actually for?
Microblading is for adults, 18-60 years old. It is ideal for those who want natural looking brows, regardless of the actual amount of hair they have present. Microblading is great for active people who want the convenience of 24-hour beauty and confidence to wake up and wear minimal makeup. Others who have enjoyed microblading are sensitive to makeup, or tired of penciling in their brows, or no longer want to guess their correct color while investing in additional products. Skin type plays a large role in the deciding factor for which permanent makeup procedure you choose. Microblading is intended for clients with normal or dry skin types. Not intended for thinning skin.
Who is microblading not for?
Microblading is heavily reliant on your skin being healthy, strong and calm. Unfortunately, pre-existing medical and skin conditions can compromise the effectiveness of microblading. For example, Microblading is not recommended for those who are pregnant or nursing, diabetic and those with blood disorders as it can put you at risk. Medications can also be a deciding factor on whether or not microblading is a good fit for you. As an example, Accutane/Retin-A users have altered skin and after microblading may not heal properly. Microblading is not intended for oily skin. (See: powder brows or nano Brows FAQ)
It is recommended to wait at last 1 year after Accutane. Retinol/ Vitamin A users should discontinue use around the brow area one month prior to the procedure. Blood pressure medications can cause the healing process to be prolonged and it can take more than two microblading sessions to achieve desired results. In this case, a third follow up session might be necessary. Just take note some medications or auto-immune, skin and medical conditions can cause prolonged healing and less pigment retention leading to more appointments to achieve desired results. If you are unsure if you are a good candidate for microblading, please contact us to book a cosultation to discuss your options and we'll come up with a plan that is best for you.
Thin and or Mature skin and microblading
If the Skin has started to thin, usually we can notice this on the tails (ends) of the brows, the texture of the skin causes the fine hair-like strokes of microblading to become thick and chunky. Because thinner skin is more prone to bleeding, you will see the microblading strokes becoming darker and turning gray. This is a result of the blood mixing with the pigment during the service. During a consultation, Social Brows Artist Amber, will access the skin and recommend the appropriate technique best suited for your brows. If you’re not a candidate for microblading, other options are Nan0-Brows or Powder Brows.
What types of issues can PMU Brows correct?
Asymmetrical eyebrows, thin or faded eyebrows, spots where brow hair is missing or brows missing the “tail” end, brows that have too much space between them, medical reasons (e.g. alopecia, trichotillomania, chemotherapy & etc.) or undesirable shape caused by over plucking or waxing.
How long does PMU Brows last?
PMU Brows lasts 1-3 years. Some things that can affect the longevity are aftercare, skintype, skincare routine, genetics and environmental factors. Annual touchups are recommended every 1-3 years
Does PMU Brows hurt?
People who have undergone the microblading, Combo Brow, or powdering procedure acknowledge mild discomfort that’s equivalent to the slow tweezing of a hair or a sunburn. At Social Brows we use numbing agents to minimize any discomfort.
Where does someone go to get PMU Brows?
The popularity of PMU Brows is exploding and technicians are popping up everywhere. Many of these technicians don’t have any skin care or makeup experience. Choosing an experienced professional is important. Social Brows PMU expert, Amber, has over 8 certifications with some of the best industry leaders in the world. Amber is also a licensed esthetician and a professional makeup artist with over 20 years experience. With her experience and expertise you’ll be in great hands.
When is the best time to schedule a PMU Brow appointment?
The best time to have brow PMU done depends on your lifestyle and upcoming events. Here are a few factors to consider:
Healing Time: After your PMU session, your brows will need about 7-14 days to heal. During this time, your brows will go through stages of flaking, peeling, and color fading before the final result settles. It’s best to schedule your appointment when you have some downtime and won’t be exposed to heavy sweating, water (such as swimming), or direct sunlight.
Season: Many people prefer to have PMU done in the cooler months (fall or winter). During these seasons, you're less likely to expose your fresh brows to the sun or engage in activities like swimming that can interfere with the healing process.
Events or Travel: Avoid scheduling your PMU right before major events (like weddings, vacations, or photoshoots) because your brows need time to heal and settle into their final look. Plan your procedure at least 6-8 weeks ahead of any significant event to allow time for healing and a potential touch-up session.
Aftercare Commitments: PMU aftercare is crucial to ensure proper healing. You’ll need to avoid makeup on the brows, excessive sweating, and activities like tanning or facials for a few weeks. Make sure you can accommodate these restrictions when choosing the best time for your appointment.
By planning ahead and considering these factors, you can ensure that the healing process goes smoothly, and you achieve the best results from your brow PMU!
Can Men get Microblading?
Nowadays, looking groomed and put-together is equally important to everyone. Men can suffer from alopecia, Trichotillomania, and even thyroid disorders which can lead to hair loss. Male microblading has a slightly different pattern which results in a more masculine appearance.
